WIMBLEDON — Former world No1 Jelena Jankovic admits she has had a complicated relationship with grass in the past but is not giving up hope on the idea of excelling at Wimbledon.
The 32-year-old Serb has reached the fourth round five times in her 14 appearances here and is looking to finally go further than that.
A daunting opening round against former Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska will hardly help her cause though.
“Oh my God, I had mixed emotions over the years. There was a time when I hated it, I felt like a complete cow on the grass,” said Jankovic.
“But when I won mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2007, I was proud I could do something at this tournament. I think I played three or four times the fourth round of Wimbledon. But my goal is to get to that second week in singles and I’ll try my best to achieve it.”
Jankovic is 2-7 head-to-head against Radwanska and the Serb lost their only previous meeting at Wimbledon in the fourth round in 2015.
