Mumbai Indians regained the top spot in the 2020 Indian Premier League table, partly in thanks to a fine unbeaten 78 from Quinton de Kock.

The South African wicketkeeper batsman struck his third half-century in four innings as Mumbai Indians made short work of chasing a target of 149 set by the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The defending champions lost just two wickets in a run chase which was completed with more than three overs to spare. The win was largely set up by a dominant bowling display from Mumbai as Kolkata were restricted to just 148-5 after Eoin Morgan elected to bat first.

Morgan registered an unbeaten 39 on his KKR captaincy debut, but the damage had already been done after Kolkata’s poor start with the bat. The side had been reduced to 61-5 after Andre Russell’s dismissal in the 11th over, and even a late cameo from Pat Cummins was unable to stem the tide for KKR.

Cummins struck a 36-ball 53 in the death and took full toll on his compatriot Nathan Coulter-Nile’s bowling. Coulter-Nile conceded 51 runs from four overs in what was his maiden outing for Mumbai in the ongoing campaign.
