A 20-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad means Chennai Super Kings remain alive in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.
All-round displays from Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran were at the heart of Chennai’s win at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sam Curran’s brisk 31 as an opener and Jadeja’s 25-run cameo in the death lifted CSK to a total of 167-6 after MS Dhoni had elected to bat first. Sandeep Sharma bowled excellently for Hyderabad, with the seamer claiming two wickets while conceding only 19 runs.
Sunrisers were unable to get the start they wanted from their openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner, with Jadeja and Curran accounting for their wickets inside the first 10 overs.
Kane Williamson played a valiant hand of 57, but his dismissal in the 18th over crashed any hopes that Hyderabad had of a victory.
The victory moves Chennai level on points with Hyderabad, with both teams sitting just below the play-off positions.
