KASPER SCHMEICHEL (LEICESTER CITY)

ARSENAL 4-3 LEICESTER

• The Dane made six saves in the defeat at the Emirates – more than any other goalkeeper over the course of the Premier League weekend.
• Leicester need Schmeichel in top form this term as they seek to build again following an indifferent campaign last time out as defending champions.

Came under fire from the Gunners but stood up to the task exceedingly well, making a string of high-class saves that didn’t merit him being on the losing side at the end of 90 minutes.

Had a lot to do in north London: Schmeichel.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN (ARSENAL)

ARSENAL 4-3 LEICESTER

• Completed eight dribbles against the 2016 Premier League champions – only once has he managed more than that during a single match in his entire career.
• Six-up: The Ox won all of his aerial duels (3) and tackles (3) at the Emirates.

The Englishman was everywhere for the hosts, marauding from the left-flank and knitting together Arsenal’s forward play to great effect. Speculation over his future is still creating headlines but Arsene Wenger needs the 23-year-old to stay put.

Back to his best: Versatile midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain.

PHIL JONES (MAN UNITED)

MANCHESTER UNITED 4-0 WEST HAM UNITED

• The 25-year-old didn’t shirk his responsibilities, winning each of his three aerial battles and two one-on-one tackles.
• Jones also enjoyed a 92 per cent pass completion success rate and helped provide United with a platform in which to build from the back.

A rock at central defensive alongside Eric Bailly, Jones may not receive the plaudits of some but he is set to be a key man for Jose Mourinho’s men this season.

Jones nullified the threat of new Hammer Javier Hernandez.

AHMED HEGAZI (WEST BROM)

WEST BROM 1-0 BOURNEMOUTH

• One from one: The Egyptian star marked his Premier League bow with a headed winner for Tony Pulis’ side.
• He was named man-of-the-match and helped the Baggies keep a clean sheet, making a string of crucial interceptions on Saturday.

The 26-year-old may not be a household name but on this evidence, he is determined to turn his loan spell from Cairo-based side El Ahly into a permanent move come next summer.

A debut to remember for Hegazi.

KYLE WALKER-PETERS (TOTTENHAM)

NEWCASTLE UNITED 0-2 TOTTENHAM

• The 20-year-old’s marauding runs from the right were crucial for Spurs – the youngster’s performance belied his years at St James’ Park.
• Walker-Peters sent in plenty of menacing crosses and wasn’t afraid to receive the ball at any one moment.

Man-of-the-match on your debut for your boyhood club, it doesn’t get much better…does it? As far as namesakes go – who needs the other Kyle Walker now.

Walker-Peters was a World Cup winner with England Under-20s earlier this summer.

NEMANJA MATIC (MAN UNITED)

MANCHESTER UNITED 4-0 WEST HAM UNITED

• The Serbian completed seven dribbles against the Hammers – more than he had managed in 90 minutes during any of his 121 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.
• Matic also enjoyed more touches and passes than anyone else on the pitch.

Why did Antonio Conte let him go? The Blues could rue selling the midfielder to their title rivals for £40m. He brought a whole new dimension to United’s midfield and freed up Paul Pogba to stride forward.

Matic broke-up the play that led to Romelu Lukaku’s opener.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (TOTTENHAM)

NEWCASTLE UNITED 0-2 TOTTENHAM

• Eriksen was unplayable on Sunday – bagging two assists as Tottenham showed once again why they are in the mix for the Premier League title.
• Indeed, no player has assisted more than the 25-year-old (30) in the English top flight since the start of the 2015-16 season.

While he has been linked with a move to Barcelona, it is vital Tottenham keep hold of Eriksen – a player whose creativity is among the best in world football. If he continues to fire this term, Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be right up there at the top come what May.

Eriksen also had more shots and completed more crosses than any other player on Tyneside.

DAVID SILVA (MAN CITY)

BRIGHTON 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY

• Pulled the strings as usual and barely put a foot wrong as he helped Man City breach the deadlock against a resilient Seagulls outfit.
• Operated brilliantly in tandem with Kevin de Bruyne, with boss Pep Guardiola urging his team-mates to get Silva on the ball as much as possible.

He might have a new clean shaven look this season, but it’s the same old Spaniard. The 31-year-old is still arguably the best technician in the Premier League and proved that with his through pass that led to Sergio Aguero’s important opener.

What a talent: Silva is into his eighth season in Manchester.

SAM VOKES (BURNLEY)

CHELSEA 2-3 BURNLEY

• A brace – two very well-taken finishes – put the Clarets in cruise control at the Bridge and Vokes’ goals will once again prove crucial in his team’s plight this season.
• The 27-year-old also became the first player to scored in four consecutive Premier League appearances for Burnley.

Vokes’ two-goals in west London helped create the result of the weekend and if the former Bournemouth man can better last season’s 12-goal haul, then Burnley will be in a strong position.

What a win for Burnley: The champions were downed at the Bridge.

ROMELU LUKAKU (MAN UNITED)

• After his debut brace at Old Trafford, Lukaku has now scored 11 goals in 13 Premier League appearances against West Ham. He simply loves facing the Hammers.
• The £75m man hit a top speed of 21.5mph in a Red Devils shirt and worked well in tandem with great mate Pogba.

Fantasy football players around the world were delighted to see Lukaku hit the ground running, and on this evidence, the Belgian star is set to be a world-beater this season. Looks sharper than ever and ready to deliver the goods for Mourinho’s men.

At home already: Lukaku.

STEVE MOUNIE (HUDDERSFIELD)

CRYSTAL PALACE 0-3 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

• Mounie’s idol is apparently former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba – and after netting twice on his Premier League debut – he couldn’t have got off to a better start as he seeks to follow in his footsteps.
• The 22-year-old has interestingly scored the second-most headed goals (7), behind Andrea Belotti (10), in Europe’s top leagues since the start of last season.

The Terriers’ win at Selhurst Park was one of the shocks of the opening weekend and the 22-year-old striker played a huge part in it. Mounie impressed with both his work-rate and physical presence up top for the away side.

A superb start to life in England for Mounie.
