Who will be the top selection this year?

In 2016 the NFL draft will celebrate its 50th year and to celebrate Sport360 has selected its top five projected selections from the best college talent going.

The Rams don’t want to move to Los Angeles without having a face for the franchise and trading for the No1 overall pick affords them the opportunity to fix just that and sell hope to their fans. NFL teams don’t give up the farm if they’re not targeting a quarterback and it’s clear Goff and Carson Wentz are the top prospects at the

position in the class. The Cal product, however, appears to be more pro-ready.

CARSON WENTZ

Whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles should have given up as much as they did to move up to No2 is another

debate, but now that they’re there, Wentz has to be the guy. Sam Bradford is a viable NFL starter and by no means a stiff, but his ceiling just isn’t high enough. Wentz, on the other hand, looks to have the most potential in this draft class, even surpassing Jared Goff. Despite his physical tools, it’s still a lot of uncertainty for Philadelphia to move all-in on.

JALEN RAMSEY

Shutdown cornerbacks are a rare commodity in the NFL, which is why they’re so valuable if you can target them in the draft. The Florida State product is the best defensive back in the draft and can play either corner or safety, making him a versatile piece. Cornerback might not be the most pressing need for the San Diego Chargers, but it could be a case of best player available with the third pick on the board.

EZEKIEL ELLIOT

Even though the Ohio State playmaker is the best offensive skill player in the draft (outside of quarterback),

there’s immense risk with taking a running back at this high of a selection. Yet, if there’s one team that would defy logic and go against what has become a smart trend, it’s a team run by Jerry Jones. The Dallas Cowboys are always eager to make a splash and add recognisable names through the draft, which is why Elliot is in play at No4.

LAREMY TUNSIL

Viewed by many as the best player in this draft, the Ole Miss prospect has the chance to be a mainstay at tackle for any team. The Jacksonville Jaguars already have a lot in invested in tackle Luke Joeckel, but the 2013 No2 pick has struggled and doesn’t look like the answer. Selecting Tunsil would likely mean bypassing a defensive playmaker, but it could be a good long-term bet.
