Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, was the star attraction as more than 12,000 descended on Safa Park Friday to mark the start of the 30-day Dubai Fitness Challenge.
The challenge encourages residents to embrace a healthier lifestyle by taking part in daily exercise and trying out new activities and makes Dubai one of the most active cities in the world.
Also in attendance was England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

The Desert Warrior Challenge is one of the UAE’s most popular fitness events, testing participants’ physical strength, mental resilience, teamwork and overall fitness.
Taking place in Dubailand District, the adrenaline-pumping obstacle course was the perfect challenge for participants to test their inner warrior.
With just eight weeks to go until the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge, over 550 cyclists from across the UAE met at the Al Qudra Cycle Track for the third Build-Up ride.
The fourth and final Build-Up ride, with a distance of 85km, will be on November 24 at Al Qudra Cycling Track, ahead of the main 92km event on December 15.
The UAE’s first ever Zoo Run took place in the beautiful grounds of Al Ain Zoo, featuring 2.5km, 5km and 10km races.
