Hafthor Bjornsson made history on Saturday deadlifting his way into the record books with an incredible 501kg lift.
The Mountain from Game of Thrones warmed up with farcically easy pulls of 420kg and 465kg before smashing his way through Eddie Hall’s previous world best of 500kg set in 2016.
Before the lift, which took place in Bjornsson’s Thor’s Power Gym in Reykjavik, Iceland, Hall, and other had raised questions over its validity with it being outside official competition.
However, it was sanctioned by the Dubai-born World Ultimate Strongman as part of their WUS Feats of Strength and World Records series, which was introduced on the back of sporting and travel bans as the Covid-19 pandemic grips the world.
On top of the record, there was an added twist when it was revealed Bjornsson had signed a seven-figure deal with Coresports to take Hall on in the ring.
Hafthor Bjornsson, new World Record holder, said: “I could have done more today, but what’s the point?”
Before adding….“Eddie [Hall]… I just knocked out your record and now I’m ready to knock you out in the ring…time to put your fists where your big mouth is and sign the CORESPORTS contract!”
Hall was quick to accept, so watch this space
