It’s become a bit of a tradition for Arsenal to sell some of their marquee names to Manchester City over the past eight years.
With Alexis Sanchez linked heavily to Pep Guardiola’s side this summer, the Chilean international could become the latest Arsenal player to make the move from North London to the blue half of Manchester.
Here’s how other former Arsenal stars have fared at the Etihad Stadium.
ARSENAL (2002 – 2009) – 225 APPEARANCES
MANCHESTER CITY (2009 – 13) – 82 APPEARANCES
The Ivory Coast international was part of the celebrated Invincibles side in 2004 and played seven full seasons at the Emirates Stadium.
He signed for Manchester City in 2009 and was appointed club captain by Mark Hughes a season later. In 2010-11 new boss Roberto Mancini gave the captaincy to Carlos Tevez, but Toure still remained the fulcrum in the Sky Blues’ defence.
He made 82 appearances over four campaigns at the club, winning a Premier League medal in 2012.
Toure: A solid signing for City.
ARSENAL (2006 – 2009) – 104 APPEARANCES
MANCHESTER CITY (2009 – 12) – 34 APPEARANCES
Struggled to live up to his large transfer fee hype at the Etihad and subsequently left in 2012, after loan spells at Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.
He famously ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans after scoring in City’s 4-2 win in 2009, sparking a furious reaction from supporters of his former club.
The Togo international scored 19 goals in 45 appearances during his two seasons with the Manchester side.

ARSENAL (2003 – 2011) – 187 APPEARANCES
MANCHESTER CITY (2011 – 17) – 141 APPEARANCES
Played eight seasons at the Emirates Stadium – clinching a Premier League medal in 2004 – before putting pen to paper on a deal with Manchester City in 2011.
Given the emergence of Kieran Gibbs at the time, coupled with a spate of injuries, Clichy’s departure wasn’t missed too much.
Now, after six years in Manchester, the French international has played 141 times, winning two Premier League titles.
Solid at left-back: Clichy.
ARSENAL (2008 – 2011) – 86 APPEARANCES
MANCHESTER CITY (2011 – ) – 124 APPEARANCES
Had a fractious relationship with Arsenal fans following his move to City in 2011.
Upon signing for the club, he famously claimed the Sky Blues’ fans were more passionate than the red half of North London.
Still, despite an inconsistent time at the club, he won two Premier League titles in his five years.
As the 28-year-old returns from his loan spell at Sevilla, it looks difficult to see him force a starting place, with Kevin de Bruyne excelling on the right.

MANCHESTER CITY (2014 – 17) – 54 APPEARANCES
Was an effervescent presence for the Gunners during his seven seasons at the club.
In 2014, he rejected a new deal and signed for Manchester City on a free.
He competed well with Pablo Zabaleta for the right-back berth but has since been reduced to appearances from the bench.

MANCHESTER CITY (2010 – 11) – 28 APPEARANCES
Although it wasn’t a direct transfer from Arsenal to Manchester City, the French international still went on to don the Sky Blue jersey during the 2010-11 campaign after signing from Inter.
Upon retiring from the game at the Etihad Stadium in May 2011, Vieira took a youth and training development role at the club – where he served for two years – and is now the head coach at New York City.
Vieira was past his peak at City.
